The best notebook and pen/pencil for doing design is a stack of A4 and a bog-standard pen/pencil (that one, that one over there).

The more you spend on pens and notebooks, the more precious you become about how well you're drawing or writing and how neat it is. You don't want to spoil a fancy new thing, after all.

This is the opposite of what you want!

The aim is get the ideas out of your head as quickly as possible. Diffuse, not Focused thinking. Creator, not Editor.

If you must be fancy, buy a notepad with dots or grids and a fine-liner.
